Senegal’s hopes of claiming Africa’s first FIFA World Cup title are high as the Lions of Teranga prepare for their opening match on Tuesday, June 16. The team, coached by Pape Thiaw, will face off against France in Group I.

In a recent interview with France Football, Senegalese forward Iliman Ndiaye expressed confidence in his team’s capabilities, asserting that they can compete with the world’s best. This ambition follows the inspiring performance of Morocco at the 2022 World Cup, where they reached the semi-finals.

“Senegal is eagerly awaiting the World Cup, as we have a clear objective: to become world champions,” Ndiaye stated. “African football is turning a corner; it’s reaching a new level. We really want the World Cup in Africa.”
