In the wake of the World Cup opener, where Cape Verde held Spain to a goalless draw, the Blue Sharks’ goalkeeper Vozinha has gained international attention. His performance not only showcased his skills but may also aid in addressing a personal matter involving his family.

Reports from CNN indicate that the U.S. Department of State is looking to assist the 40-year-old goalkeeper’s mother in obtaining a visa to attend the matches in the United States. Vozinha disclosed that his mother was unable to attend the game due to financial constraints related to securing a U.S. visa.

She didn’t manage to be here because of the visa, the money we have to pay for the visa. We didn’t manage on time, and I would like her to be here.

Cape Verdeans are among 50 nationalities subjected to a visa bond requirement of up to $15,000, stemming from allegations of high visa overstays during the Trump administration. In response to Vozinha’s plea, the U.S. Department of State provided information regarding his mother’s visa application status.

The US Department of State has no record of this individual applying for a visa. All relatives of players are eligible for visa bond waivers, and the Department is actively coordinating with the player’s family to assist with visa services.
