The manager of the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s national football team, Sébastien Desabre, has set ambitious goals for the 2026 World Cup following a commendable opening match. The DR Congo managed to hold Portugal to a 1-1 draw, a result that has been viewed positively by Desabre.
Despite the satisfaction of securing a point, Desabre remains focused on the larger objective of advancing to the knockout stages. He emphasized the need for improvement, stating, “It’s a good start to the tournament, but we need to build on it. We’re happy to have secured a draw. Our aim is to get through the group stage; a draw isn’t enough. If we win one of our other matches, we’ll qualify, but it’s a tough group.”
The DR Congo’s next fixture is against Colombia on June 24, followed by a concluding group stage match against Uzbekistan on June 28. The outcomes of these matches will be critical in determining the team’s progression in the tournament.
