The Curaçao national football team has made history by becoming the smallest country by population to qualify for the FIFA World Cup, a feat now officially recognized by Guinness World Records. This milestone marks a significant achievement for the Caribbean island nation.
Details: At the time of their qualification, Curaçao’s population was recorded at just 156,115. The Curaçao Football Federation has received official certification from Guinness World Records, acknowledging this remarkable accomplishment.
Previously, Iceland held this record after qualifying for the 2018 World Cup with a population of approximately 334,000. Curaçao’s achievement has surpassed that figure by more than half, demonstrating that size is not a determinant of success in football.
However, the team’s World Cup journey commenced with a challenging debut match against Germany, where they faced a significant defeat, losing 1-7.
