FIFA has announced changes to its pre-match protocol for the upcoming 2026 World Cup, following concerns raised by England head coach Thomas Tuchel. The German coach expressed dissatisfaction with the arrangement of photographers prior to England’s opening match against Croatia, which ended in a 4-2 victory for his team.

After the match, Tuchel made an emotional appeal to FIFA, highlighting that the large number of media representatives obstructed his view of the national anthem ceremony. He emphasized that this hindered his ability to see his players during a critical moment of the match.

In response to Tuchel’s request, FIFA has adjusted its protocols. Coaches will now be positioned further along the touchline, allowing for a clearer view of their teams during the national anthem.

These swift changes by FIFA reflect the organization’s recognition of the issue and commitment to improving the pre-match experience for coaches and players during the 2026 World Cup.
