Atalanta is nearing a deal to sign Ukrainian striker Bohdan Popov from Empoli. The Bergamo club has ramped up negotiations for the 19-year-old forward, reportedly prepared to pay approximately €5 million for his transfer.
While Cagliari has also expressed interest in Popov, Atalanta currently leads the pursuit of the Ukrainian talent. The signing of Popov is viewed as part of the club’s strategy to attract promising young players.
Popov began his career in the Dynamo Kyiv academy. Following the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, he relocated to Poland and played for Górnik Zabrze’s youth teams. In 2023, he joined Empoli.
In the 2025/26 season, Bohdan made 24 appearances for Empoli’s first team, scoring 5 goals. He has also received call-ups to Ukraine’s youth and U21 national teams.
