Atlético Madrid is reportedly in the final stages of negotiating the transfer of Alejandro Grimaldo, a defender from Bayer Leverkusen and a member of the Spanish national team. The club has already reached an agreement on personal terms with the 30-year-old player.
The proposed transfer fee for Grimaldo is anticipated to surpass €10 million, while his existing contract with Bayer Leverkusen is set to run until the summer of 2027. Grimaldo is versatile, capable of playing both as a left-back and a left midfielder.
In the 2025/26 season, Grimaldo demonstrated his capabilities by making 46 appearances for Bayer, during which he scored 14 goals and provided 12 assists. Atlético Madrid initially expressed interest in Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella; however, he chose to accept an offer from their rivals, Real Madrid.
Atlético finished fourth in La Liga this past season, while Bayer Leverkusen secured sixth place in the Bundesliga, earning a spot in the Europa League.
