A historic milestone for African football was achieved during the third-round group stage clash at the World Cup between Curaçao and Côte d’Ivoire. The match saw an early breakthrough in the 7th minute when Ivorian forward Nicolas Pépé scored, but it was the young midfielder Yan Diomande who garnered significant attention for assisting the goal.

Details: At just 19 years and 7 months old, Diomande became the youngest African player to provide an assist at a World Cup in the last 32 years, according to StatsFoot.

This achievement marks the first time in nearly three decades that such a young African player has registered an assist at the World Cup, reminiscent of the feats by Rigobert Song and Marc-Vivien Foé during the iconic Cameroon vs Sweden match in 1994.

As the game progressed, Côte d’Ivoire maintained their dominance, leading 1:0 as of the 22nd minute.
