Thalente Mbatha has emerged as a key player for Bafana Bafana during the ongoing World Cup taking place in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. Despite being left out of the opening match against Mexico, his impressive performances against Czechia and South Korea have demonstrated his capabilities on the field.
In a spirited 1-0 victory over South Korea, Mbatha showcased his midfield prowess, effectively controlling the game and collaborating well with teammate Sphephelo Sithole. His performance underscored his ability to influence the match significantly.
Following the match, Mbatha shared insights into the team’s strategy, noting that coach Hugo Broos emphasized the importance of remaining compact and avoiding early goals. “For us, we believed that we had the stamina and the legs to go all out. The coach told us not to concede until the water break and we would be able to counterattack,” he explained. He added that wingers Oswin and Maseko were instructed to maintain width to exploit opportunities on the break.
Looking ahead, Bafana Bafana will face Canada in a Round of 32 match this Sunday, with kickoff scheduled for 9 PM South African time. Mbatha is anticipated to play a crucial role in this upcoming encounter.
