Panama’s national football team encountered a tense moment during training ahead of their crucial third-round match against England in the 2026 World Cup. An argument between players Cecilio Waterman and Puma Rodriguez quickly escalated into a brief physical altercation.

During the exchange, Waterman shoved Rodriguez in the chest, prompting immediate intervention from teammates who swiftly managed to diffuse the situation. Following the incident, training resumed without any further issues.

Head coach Thomas Christiansen downplayed the altercation, emphasizing that such moments can indicate a team’s vitality. He stated, “It’s a normal situation. Honestly, I’d like to see this more often. It means the team is alive. The players are prepared to give everything and are fighting for a spot in the starting lineup.”

Despite the competitive spirit, Panama’s chances of advancing to the playoffs have already diminished due to two narrow 0-1 defeats against Ghana and Croatia. The team is now focused on their upcoming match against England, aiming to conclude the group stage with a sense of pride.

“It’s a normal situation. Honestly, I’d like to see this more often. It means the team is alive. The players are prepared to give everything and are fighting for a spot in the starting lineup,” Christiansen said.
