The global football community is mourning a tragic loss following the confirmation of the death of Yimvert Berroterán, an 18-year-old forward for Venezuela’s youth national team. The Venezuelan Football Federation has verified that Berroterán was among the victims of two powerful earthquakes that devastated the South American nation.
Reports indicate that rescue teams searched for the young footballer for 24 hours before locating his body under the debris of a collapsed building. The recent earthquakes have resulted in over 900 fatalities within just two days of the disaster.
Yimvert Berroterán was regarded as one of the most promising talents in Venezuelan football. He played for Universidad Central, where he achieved significant milestones, including winning the Venezuelan championship for the first time last December and securing the nation’s top cup.
In December, Berroterán represented Venezuela at the U-17 World Cup in Qatar, contributing to his team’s advancement to the round of 32.
