मैनचेस्टर सिटी में अपने समय को लेकर पेड्रो पोरो ने तोड़ी चुप्पी, कहा- कोई मलाल नहीं
टोटेनहम हॉटस्पर के डिफेंडर पेड्रो पोरो ने मैनचेस्टर सिटी में अपने असफल कार्यकाल को लेकर बड़ी प्रतिक्रिया दी है। पोरो का कहना है कि उन्हें सिटी में बिताए समय का कोई पछतावा नहीं है। उन्होंने स्वीकार किया कि पेप गार्डियोला की स्टार खिलाड़ियों से भरी टीम में जगह बनाना कितना चुनौतीपूर्ण काम था।
पोरो 2019 में मैनचेस्टर सिटी से जुड़े थे, लेकिन वे टीम के लिए एक भी मैच नहीं खेल सके। सिटी में रहते हुए वे रियल वलादोलिड और स्पोर्टिंग सीपी में लोन पर रहे, जिसके बाद उन्होंने पुर्तगाली क्लब स्पोर्टिंग सीपी के साथ स्थायी करार किया। आखिरकार 2023 में वे टोटेनहम में शामिल हुए, जहां वे टीम के एक प्रमुख खिलाड़ी बन चुके हैं और उन्होंने हाल ही में 2031 तक का नया अनुबंध भी साइन किया है।
एतिहाद स्टेडियम में बिताए अपने दिनों को याद करते हुए स्पेन के इस अंतरराष्ट्रीय खिलाड़ी ने कहा कि उनके मन में मैनचेस्टर सिटी के प्रति कोई कड़वाहट नहीं है। उन्होंने इस कदम को अपने करियर के विकास के लिए एक निवेश बताया और काइल वॉकर व जोआओ कैंसिलो जैसे स्थापित खिलाड़ियों के साथ प्रतिस्पर्धा करने की कठिन चुनौती को स्वीकार किया।
उन्होंने कहा, “आप इस बात से वाकिफ होते हैं, क्योंकि अंत में आप एक युवा खिलाड़ी होते हैं और आपको आगे बढ़ने की जरूरत होती है। मैनचेस्टर सिटी मेरे भविष्य के लिए एक निवेश जैसा था। यह काम नहीं कर पाया क्योंकि मैं वहां से स्पोर्टिंग चला गया, जहां मैंने दो साल बिताए।”
पोरो ने आगे कहा, “मैं उनके खिलाफ कोई दुर्भावना नहीं रखता क्योंकि मैं जानता था कि यह एक निवेश था। उस समय कैंसिलो वहां थे, वॉकर वहां थे – उनके पास कई बेहतरीन खिलाड़ी हैं, इसलिए टीम में जगह बनाना मुश्किल होता है। यह आसान नहीं था और मैं इस बात को अच्छी तरह समझता था। मैंने अपना रास्ता चुना और यह मेरे लिए बेहतर रहा।”
Tottenham Hotspur defender Pedro Porro says he has no regrets over his unsuccessful spell at Manchester City, insisting he understood how difficult it was to break into Pep Guardiola’s star-studded squad.
Porro joined City in 2019 but never made a first-team appearance, spending time on loan at Real Valladolid and Sporting CP before securing a permanent move to the Portuguese club. He eventually joined Tottenham in 2023, where he has become a key player and recently signed a new contract until 2031.
Reflecting on his time at the Etihad, the Spain international said he never held any resentment towards City, describing the move as an investment in his development and acknowledging the challenge of competing with established players such as Kyle Walker and Joao Cancelo.
“You’re aware of that, because at the end of the day, you’re a young player; you need to develop,” he said.
“Manchester City was more of an investment in my future. And it simply didn’t work out, because I then went to Sporting, where I spent two years.
“I don’t hold any grudges against them, because I knew it was an investment. At that time, Cancelo was there, Walker was there – they’ve got some great players too – so it’s difficult to break into the team.
“It’s not easy, and I understood that perfectly. I went my own way, and it worked out well for me.”
