Senegalese goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is optimistic about returning to play if Senegal advances to the round of 16 in the 2026 World Cup. Mendy sustained a knee injury on the second day of the group stage and subsequently traveled to his club, Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia, for assessment.
Following his evaluation at Al-Ahli, Mendy has made the decision to rejoin his teammates in the United States ahead of their round of 32 match against Belgium. The 34-year-old goalkeeper expressed hope for his return to the field, contingent on Senegal’s progression in the tournament, which is being co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
