Inter Milan, River Plate, C.F. Monterrey, and Urawa Red Diamonds will wrap up their participation in Group E of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 this Wednesday.
The FIFA Club World Cup 2025 is nearing its halfway point. This week will determine the 16 teams that advance from the group stage to the Round of 16, marking the start of the knockout phase. Matchday 3 of Group E—featuring Inter Milan, River Plate, Monterrey, and Urawa Red Diamonds—will take place Wednesday night.
River and Inter Milan enter Matchday 3 sharing the top spot in the standings, though the Argentine side holds a slight edge on goal differential. Both teams have won one match and drawn the other so far, and they will close out the group stage by facing each other at Lumen Field in Seattle.
This scenario could work in both teams’ favor, as a draw would see them both through to the next round. But it also presents a risk: they’re facing their strongest opponent last, and whoever loses could be eliminated depending on how the other game plays out.
Meanwhile, Monterrey are holding onto their last chance to advance as they face Urawa Red Diamonds, who have already been eliminated after losing their first two matches. The Mexican side, who drew with both Inter Milan and River, know they have only one option left: win tonight at the Rose Bowl and hope for favorable news from Seattle.

What’s next for Group E teams?
Urawa Red Diamonds are the only team in Group E with a clear outlook after Matchday 3: they’ve already been eliminated, and after tonight’s game, they’ll head back to Japan to focus on their upcoming J1 League fixtures.
The other three teams still have a shot at winning the group. While Inter Milan or River Plate are the most likely candidates, Monterrey still have an outside chance, depending on how both matches unfold, the goal differential, goals scored, and even yellow and red cards received.
Whoever finishes in first place will play their next match on Monday, June 30 at 3 PM (ET) against Fluminense, who finished second in Group F after a draw with Mamelodi Sundowns. That match will be played at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The second-place finisher from Group E will play on Tuesday, July 1 at 9 PM (ET) at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, against Borussia Dortmund, the Group F winners.
