AS Roma is continuing to be busy in the summer transfer window. The Roman club is keen to please its new coach, Gian Piero Gasperini, by adapting the squad to his requirements. Following the arrivals of striker Evan Ferguson (on loan from Brighton with an option to buy) and midfielder Neil El Aynaoui (from Lens for €25 million), the club is still planning to sign a new attacking player and has reportedly identified 19-year-old Claudio Echeverri.
Trained at River Plate, the young Argentinian attacking midfielder was signed by Manchester City in January 2024 before being loaned to Millonarios until last winter. According to Calciomercato, the two clubs have been in discussions for a few days, but the formula preferred by Roma — a loan with an option to buy — does not entirely convince Manchester City, who probably do not want to risk permanently losing their prized asset. Despite his talent, Echeverri has only played three matches in a Manchester City jersey: one in the Premier League, one in the FA Cup final and one in the Club World Cup, in which he scored against Al-Ain.
