Footem.in – Ruben Amorim is set to hold important talks with the management of Manchester United during the upcoming international break.
This decision comes after he expressed doubts about his future at Old Trafford, particularly in light of the shocking defeat against Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup.
Manchester United was knocked out following a penalty shootout against the League Two side on Thursday (August 28), a result that intensified the pressure on Amorim.
This is especially noticeable given that the club has invested over Rp 4.4 trillion on new players this summer to revamp their attacking lineup.
Defeat Raises Questions
Amorim previously considered his position in January. He even stated in May that he would leave without compensation if he was deemed unsuitable to lead the team.
Following the loss to Grimsby, his doubts resurfaced. The 40-year-old coach feels that this latest defeat has crossed a line of tolerability.
The Portuguese tactician stated that he will discuss the club’s future with senior officials during the international break after the match against Burnley this weekend in the Premier League.
Amorim also suggested that some players are not entirely aligned with his tactics, indicating that changes are necessary, but not in the form of a complete squad overhaul.
He recognized the difficulty of the current situation but emphasized the need for the team to focus on the next match before having discussions about future directions.
Club Conditions
Some Manchester United players currently on loan or facing uncertain futures in the transfer market are questioning whether they can remain at the club longer than Amorim.
However, internal sources at Manchester United have clarified that there are no immediate plans to change managers. They believe Amorim’s post-match comments at Blundell Park were more emotionally charged than strategic decisions.
Nonetheless, Amorim is under pressure to improve the team’s performance. He has managed just seven wins from 29 league matches. Thus, a victory against Burnley is crucial to help alleviate the mounting pressure.
Amorim appears committed to his responsibilities. After the team returned from Cleethorpes early Thursday morning, he was already at the Carrington training ground by 7 AM, preparing the squad for the upcoming match against Burnley.
