On Saturday night, AS Monaco achieved a significant victory against PSG on their home ground. The team, led by Sébastien Pocognoli, won thanks to a goal from Japan’s Takumi Minamino. Even playing with one fewer player, Monaco held strong and secured three points against a Paris team that struggled throughout the match. This win is a much-needed boost for Monaco, who had faced three consecutive losses in the league, including two heavy defeats against Rennes and Lens, both by a score of 1-4.
Aside from their performance in Ligue 1, a 2-2 draw against Paphos in the Champions League also raised concerns, with some suggesting a potential crisis was brewing. Recently, Monaco had been going through a tough patch. However, the return of Paul Pogba provided a silver lining. The French midfielder made his long-awaited comeback against Rennes, was rested against Paphos earlier this week, and reappeared late in the game against PSG.
Pogba had limited touches during the match, but physically he seemed fine as the team aimed to maintain its lead. While he didn’t shine on the pitch this time, he did make headlines off it in a surreal moment shared by Ligue 1+. He approached fans to address their recent discontent, stating: “It’s behind us! Today is important. We won. Let’s all keep going. We’re in this together. We won’t give up. OK? We need to create an atmosphere, more atmosphere!”
Pogba’s final remark about the atmosphere at Louis-II didn’t sit well with one fan, who retorted: “Don’t worry, we’ve been creating an atmosphere for 30 years, we didn’t wait for you. We’ve been bringing the energy for thirty years, man. Now, you guys need to sweat it out!” This unexpected exchange between the former Juventus player and the supporters sparked reactions on social media, with many calling Pogba’s comments awkward. Nevertheless, Monaco’s victory over PSG allows the club to rise to 6th place.
