Achraf Hakimi, a player for the Moroccan national team, is hopeful that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will declare Morocco the winners of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Reactions have been intense since the CAF Appeals Committee decided to take the championship title from Senegal and award it to Morocco. The Senegalese Football Federation has already appealed this decision to CAS, while Morocco is preparing its counterarguments. In the meantime, Hakimi is urging the court to recognize Morocco’s victory, which was confirmed by an administrative decision on March 17. In an interview with Movistar+, he emphasized that he and his teammates are deserving champions.
“It’s a difficult time, filled with tension on the pitch. I’m not proud of how we were portrayed with those towels. Still, the team performed well. We respect our opponents and the competition. We’re evaluating the situation and hope the decision will favor football and Africa. We believe we can win because we deserve it. You can’t just leave the pitch like that.”
