Footem.in – Borussia Dortmund winger Karim Adeyemi has been slapped with a hefty fine of approximately €520,000 (around IDR 8.7 Billion) for illegal weapon possession, adding to the young player’s already turbulent situation. His performance at Dortmund, tensions with the coach, absence from the national team, and reported interest from Manchester United all contribute to the winger’s current unstable circumstances.
German media reports that Adeyemi was fined after being found in possession of a knuckle duster and a taser. The binding decision was made on October 30th by the district court in Hagen.
The offense stems from an incident in 2024 and was processed without a public hearing. He received a ‘Strafbefehl’, a type of penalty imposing a fine without requiring a court appearance.
Authorities explained that the violation could have resulted in a prison sentence of up to three years. However, Adeyemi will not have a criminal record related to this case.
Borussia Dortmund released an official statement saying they always take allegations of criminal activity seriously and address them internally in accordance with confidentiality rules. No further details were provided by the club.
The 23-year-old is required to pay the fine in 60 daily installments, each totaling over €8,700 (approximately IDR 145 Million), as determined by the German court.
It is believed that Adeyemi did not directly inform the German national team about the case. Though called up to the squad, he did not feature in their 6-0 victory over Slovakia earlier this week.
Germany’s coach, Julian Nagelsmann, stated before the game that the matter was too significant to discuss before an important match, refusing to answer any questions related to the case.
On the field, Adeyemi’s performance has been considered impressive, with three goals and three assists so far this season. Manchester United is reportedly monitoring him closely as a potential addition to their wing options.
However, his situation at Dortmund is not entirely positive. He was reportedly involved in a tense exchange with coach Niko Kovac after showing frustration at being substituted against Cologne in late October.
Kovac acknowledged that the player’s anger was understandable, but deemed throwing a water bottle inappropriate given his age. The incident is said to have worsened their relationship.
Adeyemi’s contract with Dortmund runs until 2027. Nevertheless, it is believed that he could be released if the club receives a suitable offer in the upcoming transfer window.
Dortmund are reportedly still interested in offering a contract extension, but there have been no significant developments. The club has made no further comment regarding the player’s future since this legal case emerged.
