AFCON 2025: Highlights from the Exciting Round of 16

Twenty-four teams started in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, but only eight have moved on.

Mali, Senegal, Cameroon, Morocco, Algeria, Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, and Egypt have advanced to the quarterfinals after the first knockout round.

Here are the notable highlights from AFCON’s Round of 16:

Nigeria’s Strong Performance

Nigeria delivered a standout performance with a 4-0 victory over Mozambique. The Super Eagles showed excellent teamwork, with Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Akor Adams collaborating effectively in attack. Meanwhile, Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi provided strong support in midfield. It was an impressive display overall.

However, the focus shifted when Osimhen created drama by reacting poorly during the second half, overshadowing the team’s success.
