Salah played in Egypt’s key Matchday 2 game against South Africa, the first AFCON fixture with teams that will appear in the 2026 World Cup. He secured a crucial penalty kick in the 45th minute, helping Egypt win the match. While many felt the penalty was questionable, Salah confidently converted it and even admitted to South Africa’s coach, Hugo Broos, that he thought it might have been a soft call.
