Emiliano Martinez is once again in the news regarding his future. Although he has been linked to Manchester United for some time, the Premier League club has chosen not to pursue the Argentine goalkeeper, leaving him open for a possible move to a Champions League team.
Martinez said goodbye to Aston Villa fans at the end of the 2024/25 season, leading to speculation about his future in Birmingham. While the 2022 World Cup winner was looking forward to a new opportunity, talks broke down as the transfer window closed.
United made a formal bid for the 32-year-old, but it was a loan deal with an option to buy, which Villa rejected, stating they would only consider a permanent transfer.
Now, Galatasaray has stepped in as a serious candidate for Martinez. Reports from Turkey indicate that the Istanbul club has reached out to his representatives to discuss salary terms, as they look to replace their long-serving goalkeeper, Fernando Muslera.

A major attraction for Martinez is that Galatasaray will participate in the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League, while Aston Villa will play in Europe’s second-tier competition. Along with an attractive offer, he would be the clear starting goalkeeper, making the move even more appealing.
With just over nine months to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Martinez’s next step could be crucial. The goalkeeper aims to arrive at the tournament in excellent physical and competitive shape, a significant factor in his decision.
Martinez included in Argentina squad
Despite questions about his club future, Martinez remains an important part of the Argentina national team. Head coach Lionel Scaloni has included him in the squad for the last two rounds of South American qualifiers against Venezuela and Ecuador. Argentina has already qualified, but Scaloni has chosen to keep Martinez in the team.
