On October 23, Inter Miami announced that Lionel Messi has extended his contract with the club for two more seasons, ending speculation about his departure from MLS. Additionally, the club revealed another important contract extension.

“Inter Miami CF announced today it has signed midfielder Yannick Bright to a contract extension through the 2028 Major League Soccer (MLS) season, with an option to extend for 2029,” according to a report from Inter Miami’s official press release.

The Italian midfielder is in his second season with the team, having been drafted in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft. The 24-year-old has played in 68 matches and has made contributions of one goal and two assists, showing flexibility in his role, often playing as a defender.

Bright played a significant role in the club’s successful 2024 season, where Inter Miami secured the Supporters’ Shield, marking the club’s second official title under coach Gerardo “Tata” Martino, with a total of 74 points.

What’s next for Inter Miami?

The team, led by coach Javier Mascherano, is currently in the MLS Cup Playoffs. They won the first game of the round against Nashville 3-1, with two goals from Messi. The second game is set for Saturday, November 1, at Geodis Park; a win will advance Inter Miami to the next round.

Having already secured the Leagues Cup and the Supporters’ Shield, the MLS Cup is the final target for Messi and Inter Miami. Reports from the Argentine outlet Olé suggest that Messi and midfielder Rodrigo De Paul might not be picked for the November friendly against Angola, which would keep them available for the playoffs.
