Amidst the transfer competition at the end of this season, Al Nassr is known to want to extend Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract.
Following Al Nassr’s final match of the Saudi Pro League season against Al Fateh on Monday (26 May), Ronaldo hinted that it would be his last appearance for the club.
According to a report on the ESPN website on Friday (30 May), Al Nassr held a press conference on Thursday (29 May).
‘Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract with Al Nassr expires on 30 June. We will try to renew it so that he can continue with us; however, many other clubs are interested in signing him. Currently, however, we are negotiating with Cristiano Ronaldo to renew his contract. God willing, we will find a solution,’ said one of Al Nassr’s representatives, as quoted by ESPN.
It is well known that Cristiano Ronaldo became the top scorer in the Saudi Pro League with Al-Nassr for the second consecutive season. The former Real Madrid striker set a Saudi Pro League record last season by scoring 35 goals in his first season at Al Nassr, bringing his total to 99 goals in 105 matches.
The latest reports suggest that Ronaldo has received a lucrative offer from an unnamed Brazilian club, which would allow him to play in the upcoming Club World Cup.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner joined the Saudi club in December 2022, having left Manchester United.
Al-Nassr even said that Ronaldo’s arrival changed many of Saudi Arabian football’s national projects.
“From the beginning, Ronaldo’s presence was a national project. He has introduced Saudi Arabian football to the world. It’s incredible that he had the courage to come here, settle down and promote the Saudi Arabian league. This is an incredible milestone.”
Since his arrival, other top players have come here too. He opened all the doors. We are in contact with him regarding a contract renewal and hope he stays with us,” said an Al-Nassr representative, as quoted by ESPN.
