Manchester United was eliminated from the FA Cup after a 2-1 defeat to Brighton at home.
Late in the game, United’s situation worsened when young player Shea Lacey received a second yellow card for dissent and was sent off.
On The Rest Is Football podcast, Alan Shearer commented on the lack of quality in United’s squad this season under Darren Fletcher and Ruben Amorim. He stated, “They’re just not very good.”
Shearer added, “I don’t know what you’re laughing at, but that is the truth. There are so many errors and mistakes at the club.”
Micah Richards questioned whether the attacking players—Benjamin Sesko, Bruno Fernandes, Mason Mount, and Matheus Cunha—really lack ability. He said, “It should be good enough, right?”
Alan Shearer’s Take on Micah Richards’ Perspective
Shearer agreed about the potential in United’s attack but felt it wasn’t functioning well on the field. He told Richards, “It should be, but it isn’t, is it?”
He also noted the current state of the club, mentioning Fletcher’s challenges. “What has he had? Burnley away and Brighton at home – and he drew one of those,” Shearer remarked.
Shearer also indicated that the club had reached out to Michael Carrick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer regarding potential interim management for the remainder of the season.
Next, Manchester United will face rivals Manchester City in the upcoming Manchester derby at Old Trafford, returning to Premier League action.
