Vasco da Gama has announced the departure of Alex Teixeira, who has reached a mutual agreement with the club to end his contract early. The deal was originally set to last until the end of the year, but both parties agreed to separate on good terms. “Vasco da Gama announces that, in a friendly manner and by mutual agreement, we have terminated the contract of forward Alex Teixeira. The club thanks the #BaseForte graduate for his services and wishes him success in his future endeavors,” the club stated in a release that included a tribute video.
Teixeira, 35, came up through Vasco’s youth academy and finished his third stint at the club with 27 appearances, one goal, and one assist. In 2025, he played in 18 matches without contributing to any goals. He first left the club in 2009 for European football and returned in 2022 to help the team earn promotion back to the top division, scoring six goals and providing seven assists in 50 matches.
He rejoined the club again in 2024 along with midfielder Souza, aiming to reunite with former teammates, including Philippe Coutinho. However, this final period was less successful for the veteran striker, who found it hard to make an impact. His last match was on July 12, where the team lost 2-0 to Botafogo in the Brasileirão.
