Footem.in – Alexander Isak has been called up to the Sweden national team despite not playing in the Premier League this season with Newcastle, amid ongoing transfer rumors linking him to Liverpool.
Isak Included in Swedish Squad
Sweden’s coach, Jon Dahl Tomasson, confirmed that Alexander Isak is part of the squad for the upcoming matches against Slovenia and Kosovo.
This decision raises questions as the 25-year-old striker has yet to feature for Newcastle United this season.
His absence from Newcastle’s pre-season tour and separate training has intensified speculation about his desire to leave St. James’ Park for Liverpool.
Nevertheless, Newcastle has firmly rejected offers to sell Isak, including a formal bid from Liverpool. He also was not included in the squad for the dramatic 3-2 loss against Liverpool at St. James’ Park, nor in the goalless draw against Aston Villa on the opening day of the season.
Coach’s Diplomacy and Isak’s Record
In light of the complex situation, Tomasson adopted a diplomatic stance. “It’s hard to have a clear opinion on this situation because we don’t know what’s really happening at the club,” stated the former Blackburn coach.
He emphasized that Isak remains a professional player with a strong character and mentality. However, Tomasson acknowledged that Isak is not currently fit to play a full 90 minutes.
Isak has an impressive international record with 16 goals in 52 appearances for the Swedish national team.
Since joining Newcastle from Real Sociedad three years ago, he has scored 62 goals in 109 competitions, showcasing his sharp performance.
Transfer Pressures Towards Liverpool
Isak’s decision to represent the Swedish national team indicates he is ready to return to play, albeit not for Newcastle.
Rumors of his move to Anfield continue as he aims to strengthen Liverpool this summer. However, Newcastle remains steadfast and is committed to keeping their valuable asset.
