As the defending champions, Algeria made their debut in the 2025 Arab Cup. Coached by Madjid Bougherra, they faced Sudan and were considered favorites for the match. The Algerian coach had a roster featuring well-known players from European football, including Adam Ounas, Youcef Atal, Islam Slimani, and Yassine Benzia.
However, Algeria struggled to outperform a resilient Sudanese team. The match ended in a 0-0 draw. Although the Algerians controlled much of the game, their chances diminished after Adam Ounas was sent off shortly before halftime. With just ten players, Algeria found it difficult to maintain their attacking edge. They have upcoming matches against Iraq and Bahrain to improve their performance.
