2026 World Cup Qualifiers : Algeria beats Somalia 3-0 to qualify
A deserved qualification.
On October 9, the Algerian national football team achieved a 3-0 victory over Somalia in Oran.
This win allows the Fennecs to qualify for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, marking their return to the tournament for the first time since 2014. Meanwhile, Guinea secured a 2-1 win against Mozambique but will still miss out on the World Cup.
After a 12-year absence, Algeria is back in the World Cup. The team, guided by Vladimir Petkovic, will compete in the tournament across the United States, Mexico, and Canada following their decisive win over Somalia.
Riyad Mahrez was pivotal, confusing the Somali defense and delivering a precise cross for Mohamed Amoura, who opened the scoring with a header in the 6th minute. Mahrez then extended the lead with a shot into the top corner in the 20th minute and assisted Amoura’s second goal in the 57th minute.
With this victory, Algeria topped Group G with 19 points ahead of their final match against Uganda.
