Alianza Lima is close to finalizing a contract extension with head coach Néstor Gorosito, extending his tenure until December 2026, as reported by Depor. This agreement will ensure Gorosito remains at the helm after guiding the team to the Copa Sudamericana quarterfinals.
This decision comes after a season of mixed results. On the domestic front, Alianza faced challenges in the Clausura, leading to some criticism of Gorosito’s strategies. However, the team showed resilience internationally by defeating strong opponents like Boca Juniors and Grêmio, which influenced the board’s decision to support their coach.
There was speculation about Gorosito being a candidate for the Peruvian national team ahead of the 2030 World Cup qualifiers, but Alianza Lima’s leadership wants to keep him. “We are in advanced talks with Pipo, and we want him to stay, which aligns with his wishes,” said administrator Fernando Cabada.
Since taking over, Gorosito has managed 42 official matches, achieving 22 wins, 12 draws, and 8 losses. His influence on the club goes beyond just the results, as he has fostered stability and a strong identity within the team. The board believes that maintaining continuity is crucial for long-term development after years of frequent coaching changes.
The contract extension will also involve renewing deals for key players, forming part of a strategy to build a robust team for the next two seasons. With the agreement nearly finalized, Alianza Lima aims to secure not only an experienced coach but also a solid foundation to pursue both domestic and continental success.
