Alisson leaves Brazil squad with head injury

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker was forced off Brazil’s World Cup qualifier against Colombia on Friday (21/3) after suffering a head injury.

Alisson was forced off in the 78th minute after a clash with Colombia’s Davinson Sanchez and will now undergo further tests.

“Alisson is on his way back to Merseyside and will undergo further assessment by the Liverpool medical team,” Liverpool said in a statement on Saturday.

Earlier in the day, Brazilian team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar revealed that Alisson had shown symptoms of a concussion and had immediately undergone the appropriate protocol.

“Becker suffered a blow to the head and was taken off with a suspected concussion,” said Lasmar.

Lasmar added that Alisson was conscious and had no memory loss but was a little slow to react, so the substitution was the best decision.

Brazil narrowly beat Colombia 2-1 thanks to a Raphinha penalty and a Vinicius Junior strike from outside the area.

Alisson’s injury adds to a long list of Liverpool players missing out due to fitness problems.

Ryan Gravenberch had previously withdrawn from the Dutch squad due to injury after appearing in the Carabao Cup final.

Liverpool are now missing several key players ahead of the Merseyside derby against Everton on April 3.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Conor Bradley and Tyler Morton have already been ruled out through injury.

If Alisson is unable to play against Everton, Liverpool are likely to rely on Caoimhin Kelleher as a starter.
