According to Canadian Soccer Daily, Alphonso Davies is recovering well from a torn ACL and might play in Canada’s friendly against Ecuador on November 13 in Toronto. Head coach Jesse Marsch expressed confidence, stating, “I wouldn’t bet against Alphonso. He’s hitting all the measurements and benchmarks he needs to.”

The Bayern Munich fullback injured himself just 12 minutes into Canada’s Nations League match against the United States in March. Initial concerns suggested his season was over, but recent training videos from Säbener Straße show Davies running, lifting weights, and gradually taking on more training.

Marsch pointed out that modern recovery methods have changed the expectations for ACL injuries. Although recovery usually takes six to eight months, he believes Davies will be ready in time. “I think we’ll see a player returning at the highest level, both in leadership and on-field performance,” the coach added.

The recovery journey hasn’t been straightforward. After his injury, Davies’ agent claimed Canada Soccer rushed his return, a sentiment supported by Bayern officials who even considered legal action. Canada Soccer defended its medical team, while Davies remained positive and focused on his rehabilitation.

Bayern adapted without him and Jamal Musiala, with Vincent Kompany using Josip Stanišić in an unfamiliar left-back role. Strong performances from Harry Kane, Michael Olise, and new addition Luis Díaz kept the team’s goals on track despite early challenges.

Davies has stayed connected to the national team, even visiting during the Gold Cup to support his teammates. A return to play in Toronto would be a significant moment for Canada’s captain and a boost ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
