Bayern Munich have received bad news after Alphonso Davies suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury while playing for the Canadian national team.
According to Bild`, the 24-year-old could be sidelined for six months or even end his season prematurely.
“Davies was diagnosed with a torn cruciate ligament in his right knee after returning from international duty with the Canadian national team and will undergo surgery today. The 24-year-old will be sidelined for several months,” Bayern wrote on their website.
Davies played just 12 minutes before being taken off as Canada beat the United States 2-1 in the CONCACAF Nations League third-place play-off on Monday (24 March).
He suffered the injury after falling twice and was treated on the pitch by medical staff before limping off.
The news comes as a blow to Vincent Kompany’s side, who are still in the running for the Champions League and the Club World Cup 2025.
Bayern top the Bundesliga table with 62 points from 26 games, six clear of second-placed Bayer Leverkusen.
