The unexpected firing of Ruben Amorim has caused a stir at Old Trafford.

Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag in November 2024, left with a record this season of eight wins, eight draws, and five losses, putting United in 7th place.

Despite spending £232 million on players like Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Šeško, the partnership ended following a public disagreement.

As the club evaluates candidates such as Oliver Glasner, Enzo Maresca, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, players are starting to express the impact of Amorim’s departure.

Amad Diallo has been particularly outspoken, highlighting his growth during Amorim’s time as coach.

Since debuting in February 2021 against Real Sociedad, he became a key player under Amorim, scoring nine goals and providing seven assists in 34 league matches—only surpassed by captain Bruno Fernandes.

While away at the Africa Cup of Nations, Diallo took a moment to share his thoughts on Amorim, whom he considered more than just a coach, according to the Mirror.

Amad said, “It was a tough topic. I was a bit sad because he’s the coach who gave me visibility and opportunities at Manchester United.”

“I was very sad. I even sent him a message to thank him for everything he did for me—both in life and in my career. I wished him good luck for the future. It was a hard moment for me, but I’m focused on Ivory Coast and this competition.”

“We had a great relationship, almost like a father-son bond. He understood me, gave me advice, and allowed me to play freely. It’s unfortunate, but that’s life. You have to adapt, that’s football.”

As United seeks their seventh permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson, Amad’s tribute underscores the personal side of a club undergoing constant change.
