América vs Chivas Match Venue Changed Due to Dispute

Mexico’s biggest rivalry match might not take place in the capital. Reports from Conexión MT suggest that the Clásico Nacional between América and Chivas, set for Saturday, September 13, could be played outside Mexico City. This situation arises from ongoing tensions between América’s management and the Benito Juárez borough, which recently banned public attendance at Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes. As a result, América’s match against Pachuca had to be held without fans.

Agustín Martínez de León stated that the club is frustrated and does not want a repeat of this issue during such an important game. Although local mayor Luis Mendoza has proposed discussions with América, the relationship remains tense, leading club officials to believe it is unlikely the clásico will take place in the stadium.

In response, América is looking for other venues to host Chivas. Querétaro and Puebla are leading options, with Toluca mentioned but considered less feasible. The focus is on finding a site that can ensure safety and the excitement expected from this key match.

The Clásico Nacional is significant, driving ticket sales, TV ratings, and media coverage. If the match is moved away from Mexico City, it would break a long-standing tradition of hosting América’s home clásico in the capital.

With the date approaching, a decision will need to be made soon. One thing is clear: uncertainty surrounds this highly anticipated event in Mexican soccer.
