América vs. Pachuca Set for Closed-Door Match Due to Benito Juárez Authorities’ Order

The upcoming América vs. Pachuca match in the Apertura 2025 will take place without fans. According to Infobae, Benito Juárez authorities made this decision after a security issue arose when América’s staff blocked Indiana Street near Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes, obstructing access for local residents. One neighbor was unable to get into her home while needing urgent medical help.

Police from Mexico City stepped in under the “Operativo Ladrillera” protocol, which manages crowd control at large events. The mayor’s office deemed the actions unauthorized and a risk to public safety, leading to the decision for the game on Saturday night (August 30, 9 pm) to occur behind closed doors.

Mayor Luis Mendoza said in an official statement: “Until Club América proves that its security teams are properly trained and accredited, matches at this venue will not have spectators.”

This decision is a significant disappointment for América fans who were looking forward to seeing Allan Saint-Maximin play at home. It will also affect the club financially, with losses in ticket sales and stadium revenue.

This is not the first time Benito Juárez officials have intervened. In November 2024, both Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes and Plaza de Toros México were closed temporarily due to overcrowding and safety issues. Neither América nor Liga MX has responded yet, but sources close to the club have mentioned that an appeal may be planned. The match will be broadcast only on television.
