Ruben Amorim has requested more power at Manchester United, emphasizing that he joined to be the ‘manager’ instead of just the ‘head coach’.

Since arriving at Old Trafford in November 2024, Amorim has faced difficulties, with the club finishing last season in 15th place in the Premier League and losing the Europa League final to Tottenham.

This season, United stands in fifth place in the Premier League but has shown inconsistency. Amorim’s team drew 1-1 with Leeds on Sunday, following another draw against 20th-placed Wolves earlier in the week.

Speculation about the 40-year-old’s future continues, amid criticism of his tactics and concerns over his unwillingness to change his approach.

During his post-match press conference, Amorim indicated that he needs greater control before leaving the media gathering. “I came here to be the manager of Manchester United, not to be the head coach. I realize my name isn’t Conte, Tuchel, or Mourinho, but I am the manager of Manchester United,” he stated. “It will be like this for 18 months or until the board decides to make a change. I’m not quitting. I’ll continue my work until someone else takes my place.”
