Carlo Ancelotti addressed the situation regarding Rodrygo after he was not included in Brazil’s recent squad. The Real Madrid coach clarified that the forward is still a part of his plans for the 2026 World Cup. He stated, “The pitch will decide who makes it to the World Cup,” emphasizing that performance is the key factor.

Rodrygo has not been called up since Ancelotti took over in June. His first absence was seen as “rest” following a tough season, while this latest omission was based on a “technical decision.” The 23-year-old will likely get chances to demonstrate his skills in upcoming friendlies in October and March.

“I know Rodrygo very well and I am confident he can help the team. We are assessing seventy players based on physical, technical, and tactical aspects to form the most competitive squad. There are no favorites,” Ancelotti added.

The coach also spoke highly of Casemiro’s unique contribution to the team. “No other Brazilian has the same characteristics as Casemiro, but players like Andrey Santos or Bruno (Guimarães) can fit into that role. I also believe that Paquetá, with his skills, can play there as he can distribute the ball well,” he mentioned.

Looking towards the qualifier in La Paz, Ancelotti confirmed plans for changes. “Yes, I intend to make some adjustments. We are considering the players’ fatigue, which may influence our strategy. I’m seeking insights from players with experience in these conditions,” he said.

He also recognized some promising new players. “Douglas Santos had a strong performance, and Luiz Henrique impressed me. What stood out in these recent games was the team’s attitude, which was excellent,” Ancelotti emphasized. He concluded by highlighting the importance of teamwork: “Defensive responsibilities start with the forwards. If they defend effectively, it prevents clean ball possession for our opponents, making it easier to manage the game.”
