Brazil lost 1-0 to Bolivia in a World Cup qualifier held at an altitude of 4,150 meters in El Alto, as reported by TyC Sports. Head coach Carlo Ancelotti stated that the match was tougher than anticipated and acknowledged that there are still areas for improvement as they work toward the 2026 World Cup.

After the match, Ancelotti called the experience “very, very complicated” and mentioned it was the first game during his time that made him rethink tactical elements. He highlighted the altitude as a key factor but also commended his players’ effort: “It is very difficult to play here.”

A controversial penalty converted by Miguel Terceros secured Bolivia’s win, placing La Verde in a playoff position. Ancelotti pointed out the strength of the Bolivian team at home, noting that they are particularly intense in familiar surroundings: “It is a team that at home plays with intensity and finds a lot of success.”

He also suggested that Brazil faced additional difficulties due to the atmosphere and officiating, a sentiment echoed by Brazilian Football Confederation president Samuel Xaud, who labeled the situation as unsporting. “Even at 4,000 meters, we played against the referees, the police, and the ball boys, who were taking the balls out of play. It was a complete disaster,” he said.

This defeat puts Brazil under pressure in the South American qualifiers, with the competition for a direct spot in the 2026 World Cup becoming more intense.
