Keith Andrews told his Brentford team they have been the “best team” in the Premier League over the past ten games after their loss to Brighton on Saturday.
Brighton secured a 2-0 victory at the Gtech Community Stadium, with first-half goals from Diego Gomez and Danny Welbeck.
This defeat marks Brentford’s first loss in four league matches, having won two and drawn one of their previous three games, including a draw against league leaders Arsenal.
“In the first half, we didn’t perform at our usual level,” Andrews said during the BBC Match of the Day broadcast.
“We have been consistently good, but not today. The second half showed improvement. We created chances but didn’t capitalize on them. Overall, it’s a disappointing outcome.”
Brentford’s captain Nathan Collins, who had been on the bench for the last two games, came on for the injured Aaron Hickey late in the first half but mishandled a cross that led to Brighton’s second goal by Welbeck.
“Mistakes happen in football,” Andrews remarked. “I’m fine with that, as long as we learn from our first-half performance and keep improving as a team.”
Andrews expresses confidence post-Brighton defeat
After the game, Andrews shared his message to the players: “We’ve been the best team in this league for the last 10 games, and one poor half won’t define our past or future.”
During that stretch, Brentford was ranked second in terms of form, just one point behind Arsenal.
