Red Mariners, the fan group of Kannur Warriors Football Club, has launched a dedicated wing for its female supporters, named ‘Red Mariners Queens’. The new unit was officially inaugurated during a fan gathering at the Kannur Police Parade Ground. Sreelakshmi, representing the Red Mariners Queens, performed the kickoff of a friendly match to mark the occasion.
The initiative aims to attract more women to football in Kannur, a city known for its passion for the sport. Historically, female fans have been a regular presence at major tournaments held in the city, including the Federation Cup, E.K. Nayanar International Tournament, Sree Narayana Trophy, and the Scissors Cup at the Kannur Municipal Jawahar Stadium. During the E.K. Nayanar Cup in 2008, a separate seating area was also designated in the gallery specifically for women spectators.
