Several months ago, Antoine Griezmann shocked everyone by announcing his retirement from international football. The Atlético de Madrid player, crucial to Didier Deschamps’ system, had lost his spot as an indispensable starter during Euro 2024 in Germany. Since then, Olivier Giroud has also announced his international retirement, receiving a heartfelt tribute in front of the French crowd. However, Griezmann is still awaiting his acknowledgment.
In an interview with L’Équipe, FFF president Philippe Diallo mentioned that there are no plans for a tribute for the Colchoneros striker at this time. “Not at the moment, no. I wish it could happen. I had proposed during Giroud’s tribute on March 23 that Griezmann could receive his at the same time. But it’s a matter of scheduling. Given what Antoine Griezmann has contributed and what he means to the French public, he deserves this honor. I’m available for that.”
