Rasmus Hojlund and Scott McTominay have teamed up again in Serie A as Hojlund joins Napoli on loan ahead of the 2025-26 season.

This late transfer followed Manchester United‘s signing of Benjamin Sesko, pushing Hojlund down the roster under coach Ruben Amorim.

The 22-year-old faced difficulties at Old Trafford, finding few chances to showcase his skills with the new management.

After Napoli’s victory over Bologna, Conte discussed the lack of playing time for both players at their former club.

“We could have been more effective with the chances we created,” said Conte (via Manchester Evening News).

“We delivered a strong performance in every area.”

“The first goal came from a moment of brilliance; the other opportunities were well-planned to pressure the opponents with many players near the box.”

“Since Hojlund and McTominay didn’t play at Manchester United, there must be a reason, considering the work done by my staff and me.”

“I believe our role is to enhance a player’s knowledge and make them stronger.”

Conte compares Hojlund and McTominay to previous players

Hojlund’s loan includes an option for Napoli to buy him for £38 million in 2026, contingent on specific conditions.

McTominay joined Napoli in 2024 from Manchester United for £25.7 million.

The midfielder left during Erik ten Hag’s tenure after Manuel Ugarte’s arrival.

Conte compared the growth of Hojlund and McTominay under his guidance to the progress of other players he has coached in his career.

“I invest heavily in that, and every player I’ve worked with has always improved technically, tactically, and mentally.”

“We lacked clinical finishing against a strong team, but it was still a great performance, and I feel happy and proud,” he concluded.

This season, the Danish player has made 19 appearances for Napoli, scoring seven goals and providing three assists.
