The Argentine national team have qualified for the 2026 World Cup. This came after the Tango Team won 4-1 against Brazil in the 2026 World Cup qualifying match in the CONMEBOL zone at the Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires, Wednesday (26/3) morning IST.
Argentina did it without superstar Lionel Messi. The captain was absent through injury.
In fact, Argentina had already booked their ticket to the 2026 World Cup before the match began. Uruguay held Bolivia to a 0-0 draw. As a result, La Albiceleste are unlikely to be knocked out of sixth place in the standings.
The Match:
Host Argentina dominated the match. Julian Alvarez opened the scoring in the 4th minute. He slipped through the Brazilian defence and slotted home with his right foot. The score was 1-0 to Argentina.
Argentina were still unstoppable. Eight minutes later it was Enzo Fernandez’s turn to get his name on the scoresheet.
The Chelsea midfielder burst into the Brazilian box and unleashed a shot that Bento could do nothing about. The score was 2-0 in favour of Argentina.
Brazil kept their hopes alive after Matheus Cunha scored in the 26th minute. He fired home after stealing the ball from Cristian Romero.
Argentina continued to attack the Brazilian defence. Alexis Mac Allister got his name on the scoresheet in the 37th minute. Finally, Giuliano Simeone’s 71st-minute goal made it 4-1 in Argentina’s favour.

Argentina is increasingly solid at the top of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers CONMEBOL Zone standings with 31 points from 14 matches. Followed by Ecuador with 23 points, Uruguay 21 points, and Brazil 21 points.
