In light of the heat challenges at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, there has been a push for changes in match schedules. Although Scaloni believes schedules should remain the same, FIFA president Gianni Infantino announced a new strategy for the 2026 World Cup that may significantly influence the event.
“Every criticism we receive helps us identify ways to improve… Cooling breaks are crucial, and we will explore options, but we have stadiums with roofs available and will certainly utilize them during the daytime,” Infantino mentioned in July 2025, as reported by ESPN.
This change appears sensible, yet Chelsea and Fluminense played the semifinals of the 2025 Club World Cup at MetLife Stadium in extreme 96°F heat, a venue lacking a roof. Thus, FIFA may consider using more covered venues in Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, and Vancouver for the 2026 World Cup.
