2026 World Cup Qualification Results, Argentina Silences Chile Without Messi and Di Maria

Host Argentina won 3-0 over Chile in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, South American zone, Friday (6/9/2024). The three goals for the Tango team were scored by Alexis Mac Allister, Julian Alvarez, and Paulo Dybala in the second half.

The result strengthens Argentina’s grip at the top of South American World Cup qualifying.

The Copa America champions looked dominant and unperturbed by the absence of star players Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria, who were honoured at the monumental stadium after retiring from international duty.

Argentina opened the scoring three minutes after the break, when Liverpool midfielder Mac Allister found the net first time after being met by a cross from Alvarez, who also scored with a long-range effort in the 84th minute.
