On Saturday, Liverpool will host Brighton and Hove Albion in their latest Premier League match.
Mohamed Salah is set to return to the Liverpool squad this weekend against Brighton, but this does not mean that any backstage tensions have been completely resolved.
Salah is scheduled to leave for the Africa Cup of Nations later this month, which begins on December 22. If Egypt advances far in the tournament, he could be away until late January, missing all remaining Liverpool matches in 2025, regardless of the outcomes.

Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol noted that Salah’s return is more of a temporary measure to buy time rather than a complete solution to the issues at hand.
Solhekol pointed out that Arne Slot’s decision to reintegrate Salah focuses on the club and the team rather than on asserting control. With Salah leaving right after Saturday’s match for Egypt, the upcoming international break allows key figures to discuss matters without the pressure of ongoing fixtures.
The consensus is that Saturday’s game is a significant step, not the final resolution. Solhekol added that if Slot were purely self-interested, he might have excluded Salah altogether. Instead, the coach appears to consider what benefits the squad and club collectively.
Even though Salah is back, it’s unlikely he will start against Brighton. However, his actions during or immediately after the game may reveal his true feelings.
Salah previously mentioned inviting his family to the Brighton match, regardless of his playing time. This detail gains importance amid the ongoing uncertainty.
If Salah’s family is present and he acknowledges the crowd after the match, it could suggest he has made a decision about his future. In that case, Saturday’s game might be seen not just as a reconciliation but potentially as a farewell before leaving for AFCON.
