A tribute will be paid in full.

A great tragedy.

“It’s crucial for us to honor his contributions to this football club. This club includes not just the men’s team, but also the women’s team, and he significantly influenced women’s football here while playing for Liverpool.

Moreover, his family is experiencing a tough time right now. In my year and a half here, I’ve seen that during challenging moments, Liverpool fans and our team always want to support those in need.

He accomplished a lot for this football club and the women’s team—winning two consecutive titles and returning to guide a new women’s side when they were in a lower division; this reflects his deep love for the club.

I believe the Melwood staff and everyone who worked with him held him in great regard—and that is likely an even more meaningful legacy than the trophies. Who a person is often holds more value than their accolades. In his case, both aspects were present: he was a highly successful manager and a kind person. The respect he is receiving at Liverpool is mirrored across women’s football.”

It has also been confirmed that Sunday’s Women’s Super League match against Aston Villa was postponed, along with another game featuring Matt Beard’s former club Burnley against West Bromwich in the National League. All top women’s matches observed a minute of silence.
