Arsenal will open formal talks with Bukayo Saka over a new contract as the striker enters the final two years of his current deal.
Saka has not featured for Arsenal since December after suffering a serious hamstring injury in the win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. The injury required surgery to repair the problem.
There is no denying that Saka is a key player for Mikel Arteta’s team. Arsenal’s declining performance is also inseparable from the player’s absence.
That is why the club is preparing to meet with the player’s representatives to discuss a contract extension.
As reported by BBC Sport, Arsenal want to avoid uncertainty regarding the future of their star player. The Gunners want to secure Saka with a longer contract.
In 2022, the 23-year-old Englishman signed a contract that is understood to be worth at least £10 million per season. The contract is due to expire at the end of the 2026-2027 season.
With the first steps towards opening concrete talks having begun, the contract renewal process is expected to accelerate.
Clubs across Europe will be keen to see how this renewal process plays out, with Saka one of the best attacking talents in European football at the moment.
For now, Saka is focused on regaining his fitness following his hamstring surgery. After the win over Chelsea, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta said Saka’s condition continues to improve. He expects Saka to be back after the international break.
