An Arsenal player asserts they “don’t really care” about comments from Brighton’s coach, who criticized the team for time-wasting.
Before their match at the Amex Stadium, the Brighton manager accused Arsenal of delaying corners and called for stricter rules regarding set pieces, given the physical nature of recent games.
After Arsenal’s 1-0 victory over Brighton, he reiterated his points, stating Brighton was the “only one team who tried to play football” and claimed Arsenal was “making their own rules.”
Data from Opta revealed that Arsenal took 30 minutes and 51 seconds to restart play against Brighton, the highest duration in any Premier League match for them this season.
Arsenal unaffected by coach’s accusations
The Arsenal player responded, emphasizing that it’s the referee’s role to manage the timing of set pieces.
“We don’t really care about what he says,” the player mentioned to ESPN Brazil (via SportWitness). “It’s up to the referee to decide how much time we take. If he chooses to give a yellow card, that’s his call. We just need to focus on our game and keep going.”
This win allowed Arsenal to increase their lead at the Premier League top, moving four points ahead of Manchester City, who drew 2-2 with Nottingham Forest.
The player added they are not focused on other teams and emphasized, “We have to concentrate on what we need to do, which is win our games.”
He also noted, “Now it’s three wins in a row, and of course we need to keep winning. That’s what matters most.”
